Alex and I first talked about my joining CSR in 2017. We’d known each other for many years and had even worked together with a nonprofit project in the region. I was just starting my career in consulting, but I’d spent the previous 19 years working for and with nonprofits. I worried I had no business working in the for-profit realm. I’ll never forget Alex’s response when I shared my concerns, “Betsy, the skills translate!” And he was right. It’s been exciting to put my organizational development experience to work with CSR’s clients for almost four years now.
My time here has also taught me that CSR’s experience with for-profit companies is much needed in the nonprofit industry. As we like to say, “All organizations need to know where they are headed and how to get there,” and your company’s tax status doesn’t change that simple fact. Funders, stakeholders, and constituent expectations continue to grow despite an ever-shifting resource pool. With the recent addition of seasoned nonprofit professionals Patrick Larkin and Elena Potter, CSR now has a team dedicated to accelerating the growth of small- & medium-sized nonprofit organizations with a comprehensive suite of services:
Strategic Planning
Strategy Implementation
Marketing/Referral Management & Development
Money Management
People Management
Customized solutions for:
Board Training & Evaluation
Marketing & Social Media
Board & Executive Leadership Recruitment and/or Onboarding
Systems & IT
Treasury
We collaborate and define or refine the institution’s mission, vision, and values and then actively use them as the guardrails for strategic decision-making. We’ve been in your shoes, and we can help!
In my next post, I’ll talk more about our Strategic Planning Process for Nonprofits, a new offering that builds on CSR’s tried-and-true model, but refined for the nonprofit user. Our philosophy is that a strategic plan must be a practical, easy to implement, user-friendly tool to guide the work of the organization -- one that will not sit on a shelf. Stay tuned!
