What We Care About: Lifecycle Building Center

You hear us talking about Mission, Vision and Values a lot at CSR. – it is a key part of us eating our own cooking.  Within our core values, we have one that is delicate in nature: caring.  I say ‘delicate’ because it seems hard to quantify and measure. However, caring drives our commitment and ability to deliver to our clients and selves.

On the personal side of the equation, we also care externally.  Because we are good at what we do (!) we want to share that goodness with others.  Today’s blog will be about the Lifecycle Building Center.  I am blessed to be their current board chair and lead them in their current stage of growth.  In essence, LBC focuses on the following:

  1. People: The thrust of their mission is about people. Their mission encompasses reaching out to folks that can use the materials that they are reclaiming so that their lives are improved without busting their budget.

  2. Planet: How does LBC do this?  Because of the cool and smart people that are on board with LBC; the connections and linkages to all areas within the Atlanta business community are deep.  Whenever some of these businesses need to do a renovation or raze a building, LBC gets the call.  The team is able to divert the stream of materials from the landfill to their warehouse.  These reclaimed materials (which range from 2x4s to doors to windows and beyond) are then sold to the public at a discount of 50-85% off.

  3. Profit: As “the business guy,” my focus is truly on sustainability.  We love donations, but I love the fact that we have a great business model that is generating income to further the organization’s mission.

Lifecycle Building Center is in historic Southwest Atlanta next to the BeltLine and is open throughout the week. To understand the cool factor, take a look at our custom conference table made from a recycled bowling alley lane. Check them out, see what I care about, and get involved!
